Advocates Amit Sharma and SK Dogra, member of the District Bar Association, travelled for over 2,800 kilometers on motorcycle from here to Padum in Zanskar in Jammu and Kashmir and organised over 12 legal awareness camps for the benefit of people in the remotest corner of the country.

The duo started the expedition on June 19 and travelled villages of two states of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The two advocates sensitised a large number of people on their legal rights and schemes of the Government of India for their welfare, besides spreading awareness about consumer rights, fundamental duties, Jan Dhan Yojna, Sukanya Samridhi Yojna, child labour, etc.

Advocate Amit Sharma said they visited panchayats, government schools and groups of people who are living in extremely remote and difficult region of Western Himalayas. He said the camps were organised with the help of J&K Legal Service Authority in Turtuk village after discussing the matter with Principal District & Session Judge Leh Rajinder Sapru. A joint camp was headed by Judicial Magistrate Nubra Postuq Angmo. They also organised legal awareness camps at Thang, Tyakshi, Dha, Hanu, Gurkhun, and Darchik villages on the Line of Control (LoC) with the permission of Indian Army and local panchayat authorities, he added.

Advocate SK Dogra said Vivek Bhatia, Resident Commissioner at Keylong, enabled them to deliver a lecture on legal issues at Triloki Nath in ‘Prashashan Janta ke Dwar’ progamme organised by the administration there.

He said that though it was hard journey they were satisfied for the contribution they could make in familiarising the people with the legal issues in the remotest region of the world.
