Gurgaon, July 27 : Gurgaon is all set to become the first kerosene-free district of Haryana from November 1, celebrated as "Haryana Day" every year, an official said on Wednesday.

All the kerosene users and the families whose names appear in the BPL list as per Socio Economic Caste Census (SECC) will be given LPG gas connections free of cost under the "Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)", the official added.

This was disclosed in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner T.L. Satyaprakash at the Mini Secretariat here.

The meeting was attended by officers from the Development & Panchayats department, Revenue department, District Food & Supply Controller, Gram Sachivs and Patwaris.

The Deputy Commissioner said that making a cooking gas connection available to every household in the district will improve the quality of life of women.

He said that the Gram Sachivs (Panchayat Secretaries) will take Know Your Customer (KYC) forms from the Oil Company Authorities and get these forms filled up from the beneficiaries. They will then deposit the same with the nearest gas agency after getting it certified from the village Sarpanch.

PMUY is aimed at providing LPG connections to poor families as part of ensuring smokeless kitchens. The scheme is intended to benefit poor families both in urban & rural areas.

In Gurgaon, about 12,000 families use kerosene, and the names of 18,000 figure in the SECC BPL list.
