Tata Motors Q501 SUV Based on Discovery Sport Exported To US For Testing
Tata Motors has been on the overdrive in building on new products. Now with the association with Jaguar Land Rover, the auto major was expected to use their expertise to build new SUVs.
A new SUV codenamed Q501 by Tata Motors based on the underpinnings of the Land Rover Discovery Sport has been exported to the US for testing. This new SUV from Tata Motors is expected to be launched in 2018.
The Tata Q501 will share a lot from the Discovery Sport when it comes to structural components. On the exterior, though, the Tata SUV is expected to be different from the Discovery Sport.
Tata is planning to pit it against the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, hence, the Q501 will be powered by a 2-litre Multijet II diesel engine from Fiat which produces 170bhp of power. The gearbox will have the choice of manual and automatic.
Tata will offer the Q501 as two-wheel drive setup in the base variant and all wheel drive in the top-end variants. The pricing of the Tata Q501 is expected to be in the range of Rs. 30 to Rs. 35 lakh. In the Tata Motors portfolio, the Q501 will sit above the Safari and Hexa.
Tata has been working on the SUV with the Discovery Sport's L550 platform and you can expect a lot of details from the Discovery Sport on the Q501.
