July 27, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - Mandya:

In a joint operation, officials of various departments seized 17 gravel-laden trucks in Pandavapura on Tuesday for allegedly violating rules pertaining to the transportation of gravel. Following complaints that stone quarry operators in the taluk have been misusing the permit conditions, personnel attached to the police, revenue, and public works, ports, inland and water transport conducted the operation near the Pandavapura Sahakari Sakkare Karkhane. “We have seized the vehicles for transporting gravel over and above the capacity and on other charges,” an official said. According to the official, Pandavapura tahsildar B. Shankaraiah supervised the operation.

The owners and drivers of the vehicles will be fined according to the rules, the official added.
