Agitation against lathi-charge continues

July 27, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - Chamarajanagar:

The members of the district unit of Jaya Karnataka Sanghatane took out a procession here on Tuesday against the lathi-charge on farmers and women at Kaggaladahundi village in Gundlupet taluk recently, who were staging a dharna against the setting up of a marigold processing unit.

The procession commenced from the Chamarajeshwaraswamy Temple and culminated at the District Office Complex here.

The members later submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.

Various organisations, including the Social Democratic Party of India, PFI, Sugarcane Growers’ Association and the Karnataka Rakshana Sene also condemned the lathi-charge.

The agitators alleged that proposed marigold processing unit was being set up a China-based firm.

They alleged that it was not correct to lathi-charge farmers and women and added that the plant, if opened, would harm the environment and pollute groundwater.
