Pune: A 16-year-old std XI student was robbed of Rs 320 and a smartphone near a multiplex in Kothrud on Tuesday morning.
The complainant, Atharva Kshirsagar, told police that the lone suspect was carrying a weapon resembling a firearm. The Alankar police have launched a search to find the man, who was speaking in Hindi. They also carried out nakabandi in different areas.
Atharva is a resident of Karvenagar and studies in std XI (science).
Around 7am on Tuesday, Atharva's mother dropped him to the college for practicals and left for her job. The practicals were cancelled and so Atharva's lectures were scheduled for the afternoon. He decided to return home. Atharva took the bus from Deccan and got down near Karve statue on Karve Road at 8.15am. As he was walking towards Karvenagar via Rahulnagar, an unidentified man on a two-wheeler stopped by him and asked him the time. The suspect spoke in Hindi. "Before Atharva could speak, the suspect threatened him and forcibly took Rs 320 and also snatched his cellphone," said an officer from the Alankar police station.
Atharva did not raise an alarm because he had seen the man carry a weapon that resembled a firearm. After the suspect fled, Atharva told two passersby about the incident. They dropped him home. Atharva's neighbours then informed his parents, who later approached the police.
