MUMBAI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday sent a complaint to
state transport commissioner’s office alleging that minister
Pankaja Munde was using a vehicle with a New Delhi registration number as her official
car with a beacon
without an
NOC for
transfer to Maharashtra. The party said Munde had not paid state taxes.
Transport commissioner Shyam Wardhane told
TOI that he was yet to examine the complaint.
He said AAP spokesperson Preeti Sharma Menon had called him. Senior RTO officials were tightlipped on the matter.
Pankaja did not respond to text messages and calls from
TOI seeking her version.
Menon, said, “Since Munde is using a red beacon on this vehicle, it is fair to assume she is using this vehicle on a daily basis in Maharashtra. This vehicle is registered in Delhi in the name of an Auragabad-based company. No NOC has been applied for to transfer the vehicle.”
RTO sources said transfer NOC was not required in cases wherein a person was on a “tra-nsit visit” to another state—say for a few months. In that case, the car can be run in Maharashtra for a few months before returning to Delhi. RTO officials will probe whether this rule applied to Munde. Menon said AAP had sought details from the transport ministry in New Delhi.
