A working meeting of Crimea OFAS with a top executive of ICAP Secretariat

On 28 June 2016 the top executives and staff of Crimea OFAS had a meeting with Azam Usmanov, the Secretariatthe Interstate Council on Antimonopoly Policy (ICAP).

“This year the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) celebrates its 25th anniversary. 25-year efforts confirmed an important historic role of the CIS in global and regional political and economic processes”, said Azam Usmanov. “Undoubtedly, to a considerable extent due to the CIS, trading and economic relations between the CIS member-states were transformed to the market basis, an ongoing political dialogue, cooperation towards strengthening security and stability, in humanitarian field are established. The CIS has become a unique platform for multi-faceted cooperation of its participants in practically all fields”.  

It is this platform that in 1993 formed the basis for initiating cooperation in the field of antimonopoly policy and the Interstate Council on Antimonopoly Policy was established. Azam Usmanov discussed in more detail an important aspect of ICAP work: the Headquarters for Joint Investigations of Violations of the Antimonopoly Law by the CIS Member-States.  

The Headquarters investigates socially important markets, successful performance of which allows developing the infrastructure that forms the basis of the common economic space within the CIS and also directly affects the well-being of the CIS population.  

In 2007–2015 the Headquarters analyzed the markets of air transportation, telecommunications, retail chains, medicinal drugs, oil and petrochemicals.  Reports drafted on the survey findings were discussed by the Council of the Heads of the CIS Governments, and the conclusions and recommendations have been implemented.

Participants emphasized the significance of such events enabling to learn about the work of sectoral bodies of the CIS Member-States.
