35,000 to participate in 27th Thane Mayor Varsha marathon

THANE: Nearly 35,000 sprinters will run to bag the coveted 27th Thane Mayor Varsha marathon on August 28. The theme of the marathon this year is based on cleanliness.
The marathon will be held in 11 various age groups in addition to the main two stretches- 21kms for men and 15 kms for women.
The main marathon will start from the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) headquarters at Panchpakhadi and terminate at the same spot after going around various parts of the city.
A new sprint stretch of 11kms between Kharegaon and TMC headquarters has been added this year along with a new walk for fun initiative where all residents will be invited to participate. Special runs for the elderly, and children under various age groups will also be held.
Thane guardian minister Eknath Shinde will flag off the event while Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray will be present for the prize distribution ceremony, said civic officials.
