The definition of rape differs from country to country and that, coupled with how well the crime is reported and recorded, determines what the numbers are finally going to look like.
Bokaro: A Class X passout of Kasturba Ghandhi Residential School (KGRS) in Kasmar block, who fled her home on July 5, was found in Rajasthan's Dungarpur district on Monday owing to the district administration's search efforts.
Shivani, the daughter of Vishaka Devi, fled her home after being "scolded by her mother". Shivani was found by Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel at Kotshila station.
The railway police handed the girl over to Ranchi's Children Welfare Committee (CWC).
The girl was then sent to a shelter home in the state capital. CWC officials informed her mother. When Devi arrived at the shelter home to take her daughter back to Bokaro, authorities refused to hand over the girl as the mother reportedly did not carry identity proof.
"When Devi travelled back to Bokaro to get collect ID proof, Shivani fled the shelter home. Authorities lodged a complaint with Chutia police station in Ranchi and informed Devi about the incident. Later, Devi approached DC Rai Mahimapat Ray for help," said Mariam Kachap, an administrative officer who liaised with Dungarpur police during the search operation.
On July 23, Shivani called a neighbour in Bokaro and disclosed her whereabouts. "Locals spotted the girl wandering the streets in Dungarpur. They allowed Shivani to call up her neighbour by lending a phone," said Ray.
After receiving information about the girl's whereabouts, Ray sought Dungarpur police's cooperation to ensure the girl's safe passage home. "Dungarpur SP has informed us that the girl is safe. Shivani will be home soon," said Ray.
