Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi on Monday said that all technical procedures for land transfer to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Dharwad have been completed.
He told reporters that the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has transferred the land to the Higher Education Department, which has, in turn, transferred it to the IIT Society.
The Union government had asked the government to allot land for setting up the IIT and accordingly, the State government has donated 470 acres coming under Kelgeri and Mummigatti jurisdiction on P.B. Road in Dharwad.
This land was acquired by KIADB a few years ago and the government has paid land fee to the board.
The Joint Director of Collegiate Education of Dharwad has been asked to register the land in the name of the IIT Society before July 31 and officially hand it over to the Centre, the Minister added.
Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javdekar will inaugurate the IIT transit campus at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and several Ministers, both from the State and Union government, will take part in the event.
A stage programme will be held at the University of Agricultural Sciences seed unit auditorium at noon.
Around 3,000 people, including academics, are expected to participate in the event. Special arrangements have been made to accommodate at least 200 students from rural areas.
Besides, 5,000 brochures on IIT will be distributed at the session, he said.
