The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday submitted a draft on the charges levied on the accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts to the special NIA court.

The agency has not invoked charges of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act against any of the accused, and only booked them under the Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, Arms Act, and the Explosives Substances Act These charges are framed against Ramesh Upadhyay, Sameer Kulkarni, Raja Rahirkar, Rakesh Dhawde, Jagdish Mhatre, Lt. Col. P.S. Purohit, Swami Amritanand alias Sudhakar Dwivedi, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, Ramchandra Kalsangra and Sandeep Dange.

The special NIA court had recently rejected the bail application filed by Sadhvi Pragya. On May 13, the NIA filed a charge sheet, which recommended to drop all charges against Pragya and five others. It had stated that sufficient evidence is ‘not found’ against the six accused.
