Manchester Test, Day 4: England vs Pakistan, Live Cricket Scores
Right then, the series is at a level now. England have bounced back comprehensibly and destroyed the high-flying Pakistan side. Next they meet is on 3rd August for the 3rd Test match at Edgbaston at 1530 IST! Until then, Goodbye and Take care!
JOE ROOT, MAN OF THE MATCH - (On getting to 200) He says that it was special and the kind of support he got was good. He says that it was good to bat in out there by building good partnerships. (On his batting) He feels that it was out of the practice. (On the series) He feels both the sides are playing very good and playing the next game will be a crucial one.
ALASTAIR COOK, ENGLAND CAPTAIN - He says that they dropped only one catch but overall they did really well to win it here. He feels Root was superb. (On their plan to play Yasir) He admits that they really worked hard to see off him. (On Root's batting) He feels that he is really playing well and is good for the side. (On the pitch) He states that the bounce did help them and the bowlers used the conditions to the extent. (On the follow-on not being enforced) He says that it was for the bowlers so that they could rest well and come in hard today and it paid off. (On Anderson and Stokes) He confirms that Anderson is doing fine but Stokes will undergo a scan tomorrow. He also says that the side still have good balance with depth batting. Ends by thanking the crowd.
MISBAH-UL-HAQ, PAKISTAN CAPTAIN - He says that the game of cricket turns around that way. He feels that the toss was a crucial one as Root and Cook played really well. He opines that they played all around good game. (On the toss) He says that they couldn't play well in batting second and allowed the opposition to score more than 600 whereas it should have been 300. He also admits that their batting was poor in the first innings. (Talking about Yasir's bowling) He feels that there were less runs to bowl at, also the pitch didn't assist him. (On the form of their top order) He admits yes, it is necessary for them that they should really convert their starts into a big one. (On this series) He states that they will really look to turn around after this negative result in this kind of conditions. As they are mentally strong. (On their bowling) He says that they are capable of notching 20 wickets.
Talking about the bowling, Anderson fared exceptional by picking up a 3-fer. The real damage was done by Woakes and Ali at the crucial juncture by sharing 6-wickets amongst themselves. Broad was wicketless and Stokes was taken off because of his calm injury. The home side have bounced back in a style. Stay tuned for the presentation.
Woakes just before tea, took the game away from Pakistan by getting Misbah bowled. Since then, the hosts had to see off wild slogs, swings and solid defenses from Wahab, Yasir and Amir as they kept frustrating them with their batting quality and endurance. The show was finally brought to curtains when Woakes took Amir's wicket as they hanged their boots eventually.
Pakistan were asked to chase a gigantic target of 565 with almost 6 sessions to deal with. In the response, England wasted no time and started picking up wickets from the word go. From being 7-1, the tumble went to 25-2. Hafeez and Misbah did show some resistance by seeing off the English bowling cautiously but Moeen Ali broke their zeal by notching Hafeez's wicket. Younis, the veteran played handy innings too after getting a second life but he also gave away his scalp to Ali and made Pakistan slip further.
England have leveled the series 1-1 and in the point tally it is 4 all. After scoring 589 in the first innings with a superb knock from Root. The home side went to all out the visiting side on 198. Surprisingly, the hosts batted yet again and added 173 with Root and Cook stitching a 105-run stand along with their individual 70 plus scores. We wondered why the follow-on was not enforced.

...Day 4, Session 2...
Pakistan have put up 47 runs in 16 overs at Lunch time and have lost Masood and Azhar. Hafeez continues to hold the line and expectation lies heavy on the shoulders of the jumpy Younis Khan. However, Younis suffered a close shave when he was dropped on 9 by Cook. For England, it's Anderson delivering the goods, taking both wickets but the other bowlers are doing a good job as well.
