Jose Mourinho is looking to bolster his Manchester United defense by exploring the possibility of bringing Leonardo Bonucci to Old Trafford.

The Italian defender was a star performer for Antonio Conte's Italy during the European Championships in France this summer.

And while the club's attempts to bring Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba to United has been widely publicized, Mourinho is looking at a double swoop by signing Bonucci from the Italian club as well, according to Manchester Evening News.

The Portuguese has already signed a center-back this summer with Eric Bailly arriving from Villarreal for £30 million ($39 million), but his back line still lacks experience.

Bonucci, 29, has been at the core of a Juventus side that has won Serie A for the past five consecutive seasons, as well as two Coppa Italias and runner-up in the Champions League.

But Mourinho may face competition for the Italian's signature as Conte, Mourinho's replacement at Chelsea and former Italy boss, also looks for an experienced defender.

Juventus has prepared for possible departures with the arrival of Miralem Pjanic, Dani Alves and Medhi Benatia.

Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus manager, will not want to see core members of his team in Pogba and Bonucci leave though.
