Poor production of jasmine has created worries to the flower farmers and also the flower traders at Erode district. “For the past one month due to adverse seasonal climate and failure of rain the production of the flower has decreased manifold.
Usually, during this season 30 tonnes of jasmine a day would be produced and of this at least 20-25 tonnes would be brought to Sathyamangalam Flower Sale centre. But now we are getting only one tonne of jasmine. Because of this low production, many farmers were affected as they are giving high wages for plucking the flower,” said Muthuswamy, President, Sathyamangalam Flower Growers and Merchants Association. On Sunday, the flower fetched ₹200/kg.
