NEW DELHI: For the first time, an Indian contingent of cyclists competed and completed the 2016 edition of the elite TransAlp Mountain Terrain Biking challenge in Europe.
Sponsored by Hero Cycle, India's cyclists were divided into two groups, the first featuring the experienced pair of Shiven Sharma and Devendar Thakur and the second Ashish Sood and veteran German rider Heinrich Fuchs. Sharma and Thakur finished with an overall standing of 61st in the men's division.
The event, held from July 17-23, is regarded as one of the toughest mountain bike marathons on the world cycling circuit and pits hundreds of teams of two over seven stages across the main ridge of the Alps.
The race has evolved from an eight-stage journey (1998-2013) into seven-stage circuit in the past three years. The circuit traverses the Alps from Germany to Italy's Riva del Garda.
Mohit Sood, founder member of MTB Himalaya, posted pictures from the race on Facebook.
