Teamwork is need of the hour: Expert

July 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:24 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Youngsters should know how to work as a team when they enter modern-day job market, according to K.V.S.S. Suryanarayana Sastry, director, RRG Engineering Technology, Hyderabad, here on Sunday.

Speaking at a seminar on ‘Psycho-sociological Cultural and Literary Dynamics of Soft Skills - Managerial Perspective,’ organised by the English Language Users’ and Literary Admirers Association, he said the students were taught to excel individually for 20 years in school and colleges. “They know how to compete with others but when they join a company they are confused whether to work along or compete with their colleagues,” he added.

For students joining the software sector which primarily deals with clients of several countries, he asked them to learn and respect the culture of people on the other side.

“Only when you respect their way of life there will be smooth relations. Know them and their country. Several misunderstandings can be dealt with in this way,” he said.

‘Clear communication must’

He also said that nothing comes easy and emphasised on hard work and commitment. “Clear communication is a must if you want to climb up professionally. It is more important if you are involved in off-shore transactions.” Mr. Sastry touched upon inculcating positive approach and compassion towards others while working as a team leader.

“Management wants to invest on people who are trustworthy, dependable and having the wherewithal to take the company forward. One should remember the ultimate goal of the companies is to make profits and they are keen to deploy resourceful personnel.”

V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College principal A.V. Ratna Prasad inaugurated the seminar.
