Cops foil meeting at Sarangpur Circle

Kalupur police stopped a group planning to discuss issues of dalits from holding a meeting on Sunday afternoon in front of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue on Sarangpur circle.
Cops dispersed the gathering after they failed to produce police permission for the public meeting. Kalupur police said that after learning of a group gathering at the statue to discuss dalit issues, a team went to the spot and verified they did not have police permission for the meeting.
"We have set up a permanent watch at the circle to prevent any untoward activity," said an official. Meanwhile, city-based dalit organizations held a protest near Vastrapur railway station with police personnel from four police stations deployed at the spot. Police officials said that the event went peacefully.
