Protesters take ‘district status for Jangaon’ to next level

People unfurl ‘Jangaon flags’ on the rooftops of their homes and sing ‘Jangaon song’

July 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:01 am IST - JANGAON (WARANGAL DIST.):

Jangaon Zilla Sadhana Samithi conducted yet another protest programme, this time by raising slogans -- Jangama zilla, maa gudela ninda .

The JAC members designed a flag on Sunday and people started unfurling ‘Jangaon flags’ on rooftops expressing their desire for a new district. JAC chairman Dashmanth Reddy hoisted the ‘flag’ and others sang Telangana songs and also ‘Jangaon song’. Later, the ‘flags’ were distributed to every household. The protesters said that they will not stop their agitation till Jangaon district is formed. “We will not go back from our demand. We will continue to fight for Jangaon district,” Arutla Dashamantha Reddy said. The Congress party leaders also took up a relay hunger strike from Sunday. Jangaon is a historical place and was hot bed of armed struggle during the Nizam’s era. It has a rich legacy and heritage and it should be preserved by making it a new district, rather than merging it with other districts. Merger will only reduce its glory, said the protesters. “The people of Jangaon who fought for Telangana expecting a separate district are disappointed. Srikantha Chary of Jangaon sacrificed his life for Telangana statehood. We fought for Telangana, now we will fight for Jangaon. The government forgot everything,” the JAC leaders alleged.
