Temple donations stolen in Agonda

A theft was reported on Sunday at Agondeshwar Temple at Agonda, Canacona, where unidentified thieves broke through the main door and ran off with contents of the temple donation box.

About 30 sovereigns of gold, including those worn by her, were taken by the gang after gagging her. A mobile phone, Rs 10,000 and a digital camera were also taken by the gangsters, police said.
Panaji: A theft was reported on Sunday at Agondeshwar Temple at Agonda, Canacona, where unidentified thieves broke through the main door and ran off with contents of the temple donation box. When the temple caretaker Putu Sonu Velip arrived on duty at 7am on Sunday, he found the main door of the temple and the lock on the donation was broken open.
Velip then reported the theft to the Canacona police.
The police have already begun investigating the case and are trying to track the thieves with the help of fingerprint experts.
“Agonda being a famous tourist destination, there are many outsiders visiting and living in the area. So it is difficult to name any suspects,” a temple mahajan said.
Police said that regular patrolling is carried out in the area upto 2.30am and that the theft had taken place between 2.30am and 7am on Sunday.
