17-year-old girl’s death: Minister assures CID inquiry
Chandrapur: Even as Bhisi police have failed to unveil the mystery of suspicious death of Shweta Borkar (17) even after a week, guardian minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on Sunday assured her parents to order a CID inquiry into her death. Body of Shweta, a Std XI student, was found hanging on a tree deep in the forest of Lawari (Siraspur) in Chimur tehsil on July 18.
The girl was a native of Umanur village in Aheri tehsil of Gadchiroli and both of her parents — father Sampat Borkar and mother Prabhatai — are government employees. After completing her matriculation, she had taken admission in a junior college in Brahmapuri. She had visited her aunt and sister’s home in Lawari and Minchur village in Chimur tehsil a few days before her death and returned to Brahmapuri. On the fateful day her body was found hanging on a tall tree 2km deep in forest from Lawari (Siraspur).
Her parents informed that Shweta visited her aunt’s home in Lawari Sirsaspur in Chimur tehsil after securing admission. Later she went to Minchur village to meet her cousin sister with her cousin brother (aunt’s son) on July 14. Next day (July 15) her brother-in-law and cousin had dropped her in Brahmapuri where she hired a room to live with her classmate. On July 16, her cousin and brother-in-law had called her on phone, but after that her phone was switched off.
On July 18, her body was found in the forest near Lawari village. Bhisi police have termed it as a case of suicide. Shweta’s parents however raised questions on the death of their daughter during their visit to Chandrapur on Sunday. Why had Shweta chosen the forest 50km away from Brahmapuri to end her life? Why did she go 2-km deep into the forest to commit suicide? How did she manage to climb the 11 feet high tree without any help, they asked.
They met guardian minister Sudhir Mungantiwar with the help of social activist of Prahar organization. They told the minister that there are several suspicious aspects in the death of their daughter and cops have made haste in reaching the conclusion of her death being suicide. Mungantiwar on hearing their grievances assured the Borkar couple to order CID inquiry into Shweta’s death on the occasion.
