Punjab SC Commission summons DC, SSP

Taking a serious note of a bid to illegally take over a petrol pump allotted to a scheduled caste person by a local resident, the Punjab Scheduled Caste Commission has summoned Deputy Commissioner Varun Roojam and SSP (Amritsar rural) Jasdeep Singh to report over the issue. Both have been asked to appear before the commission on July 29.

The Beas residents, Amarjit Singh and Kanwaljit Kaur, appeared before the commission members and stated that the government had allotted a petrol pump ‘Dilkash Fuel’ located at Butala village under the SC quota to them. They alleged that on June 15, Sarabjit Singh along with unidentified persons tried to take over their filling station.

Kanwaljit told the commission that she had been operating the filling station for the past nine years. She alleged that the police was dithering on registering an FIR against the accused, who tried to grab their petrol pump.

Member of the commission — Gian Chand and Rajinder Guddu — immediately called Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Baba Bakala, for registering an FIR against the suspects, who tried to illegally and forcibly occupy the filling station. The members said it was a clear cut case of atrocities against persons, who belonged to the Scheduled Caste category.

They also sought an explanation from senior police officials on why a case was not registered in this regard.

They asked the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to personally appear before the commission while directing the Deputy Commissioner to investigate the matter and submit a report on July 29.

DSP, Baba Bakala, said he had called the complainants on Monday for initiating further necessary action.
