Notorious gangster wanted in ASI’s son’s murder nabbed

AMRITSAR: The city police today arrested notorious gangster Palwinder Singh Pindi of Shahbazpur Kukkrawala village and his accomplice Papinder Singh alias Pinder of Harsha Chhina Ucha Killa village in connection with the murder of Layakdeep Singh.

The city police today arrested notorious gangster Palwinder Singh Pindi of Shahbazpur Kukkrawala village and his accomplice Papinder Singh alias Pinder of Harsha Chhina Ucha Killa village in connection with the murder of Layakdeep Singh.

The victim was shot dead by Pindi and his accomplices on May 21 over a minor altercation near Gopal Mandir on Majitha rRoad here.

With their arrest, the police has nabbed five persons in connection with the case so far. One of their accomplice, identified as Lovedeep Singh of Kukkranwala village, is still out of reach of the police.

Lakhbir Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), crime, said Pindi was arrested from Airport Road following a tip off.

Similarly, Pinder was held form the naka on the 88-feet road. The police recovered a .32 bore pistol with live cartridges and 270 gm of narcotic powder from the possession of Pindi and Pinder, respectively.

Earlier this month, the police had arrested Mani Partap, alias Chetan Partap, a resident of Bhagwan Das Saran in Putlighar and Tejvir Singh, alias Teji, of Mehlawalan here. The third person, Sukhmail Singh, a resident of Mammokhera Kathwa village in Fazilka, was arrested for giving them shelter. The police recovered two pistols, besides three cartridges of .32 bore from their possession.

Layakdeep Singh (20), son of the ASI, Jang Bahadur Singh, was shot dead on May 21 in the late evening. His two friends Abhishek of Pawan Nagar and Deepak of the 88-feet road also sustained gunshot injuries on their necks. Their third partner Pankaj of the Vijay Nagar area escaped unhurt.

The victim along with his friends was going towards Sehaj Enclave side to buy garments. They had an altercation when Layakdeep’s shoulder rubbed with that of Palwinder (Pindi) at the backside of Gopal Mandir. A bullet fired by Pindi pierced the neck of Layakdeep, which led to his death.

Pindi is wanted in many cases of robbery, dacoity, besides attempt to murder registered in various parts of Punjab.
