Online transactions are unavailable from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles until Sunday afternoon.The outage began at 2 a.m. and is scheduled to last until 1 p.m., according to the RMV. It is allowing for "scheduled maintenance."  Also Sunday, the RMV will begin production of the next generation of driver's licenses for the state. The new IDs are equipped with several security measures that will change the look and feel of the cards. New features include raised lettering, similar to a credit card, laser perforations, ultraviolet ink and several secure background designs. Background images include the golden dome of the State House, the memorial to Robert Gould Shaw and the Massachusetts 54th Regiment, the state bird and the state flower.
