Bagandang Festival in Beaufort July 29-31

Kuala Penyu: Festival Bagandang 2016 will be held at the Beaufort Tamu grounds from July 29-31.The festival's patron, Beaufort MP Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, said various exciting activities will be conducted throughout the annual event, organised jointly by the Beaufort District Office and Beaufort Parliament Services Office.

According to Azizah who is also Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister, among the activities are traditional food fest, local cultural showcases, performances by Indonesian artistes Afgan and Khalifah.

"The programme will also feature workshops and competitions for 'bagandang' which will be participated by groups throughout the State.

"The highlight of the festival is traditional music performances by groups from Indonesia, Brunei, Sarawak and Terengganu.

"Cycling and silat competitions will also be held during the event," she said after the opening ceremony of SK Kiligus' Aidilfitri celebration, here. Azizah said aside from promoting Beaufort as a tourism destination, the festival also aims to preserve local culture.

Such effort, she said, can introduce the district globally and at the same time attract more tourists in future.

"Hence, we hope the festival will attract more visitors, especially from abroad to experience the uniqueness of the local culture," she said.
