MUMBAI: Top seeded players continued to shine by steamrolling their way to the finals of the
NSCI Junior Indian Open with comfortable victories in their semifinal matches.
MUMBAI: In the girls' under-17 category,
Ashita Pranaya Bhengra, top seed fromTamil Nadu, was in complete control as she clinched straight games, 11-6, 11-5, 11-5, win against the joint 3-4th seed Navmi Sharma of Maharashtra.
She will meet Nikita Joshi in the final, the second seed outclassing Amita Gondi 11-9, 11-9, 11-9. No. 1 Tin Yan Lau and compatriot Sin Yuk Chan from Hong Kong trounced their opponents in straight games in their respective semifinal matches to set up a meeting in the girls' under-15 final. While Lau overcame Ananya Dabke 11-8, 11-5, 11-8, Chan defeated Avani Nagar 11-4, 11-7, 11-9.
Another Hong Kong native, no. 1 seed Ka Wing Ho booked her berth in the final of the girls' under-19 category with a 6-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-6 victory over Aishwarya Bhattacharya.Girls' under-13 no.1 seed Aishwarya Khubchandani brought an end to unseeded Tanishka Jain's dream run 11-7, 11-5, 11-0.Jain, from NSCI, was the surprise element as she defeated seeded opponents in the qualifiers and quarterfinals.
In the boys' under-17 category, no. 1 Tushar Shahani was challenged by Utkarsh Baheti, who took him to four games before conceding 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8. However, it was the gruelling five game semifinal between Arman Jindal and Veer Chotrani that stole the show from the top seeds. Jindal ran out an 11-6, 5-11, 12-14, 12-10, 11-6 winner.
