Lucknow: Trial diversion on the route from Charbagh to Hazratganj is likely from next week as district administration makes arrangements to facilitate construction of underground metro from next month.
Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has announced to begin construction of underground metro from August first week from Charbagh to Parivartan crossing, resulting in traffic diversions at three main crossings -Hussainganj, near Secretariat and at the Mayfair trisection.
One side of the road will be used for regular traffic movement while the other side traffic will be diverted to nearby alternative routes.
Trials will begin from July 26, announced the DM after surveying the 3.5km underground metro stretch on Saturday along with Lesa, UPSRTC and LMC officials to finalise details of diversion plan. Most of the route is underground except for KKC and DM residence (start and end points). The diversions will be enforced for next two years.
The DM pointed out that haphazard parking of autorickshaws, city buses and temporary encroachments are major obstacles in implementing diversion. He instructed that while construction is on, no roadways bus will ply on diverted routes to avoid congestion. All roadways buses from Charbagh to other destinations will ply through Shaheed Path, Kanpur and Faizabad Road. For city bus services, he has directed to use only small city buses (28 seating capacity) on diverted routes to avoid traffic congestion.
