Man serving life term dies of cancer

A 42-year-old man, serving life imprisonment in Hindalga jail, died of cancer at the district hospital on Friday night.

Belagavi: A 42-year-old man, serving life imprisonment in Hindalga jail, died of cancer at the district hospital on Friday night.
Raju Devappa Shankargouda of Alarwad village of Belagavi taluk was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2007 for murdering his sister at Udyambag in Belagavi in 2004. He was also facing charges of selling ganja.
Shankargouda was earlier housed at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail before being shifted to open jail at Koramangala in Bengaluru.
However, he broke the jail and was arrested in 2011 from Arjunwad village, Chandagad taluk in Maharashtra, where he resided in another name with a forged Aadhaar card.
