The Singur reservoir, once the lifeline of twin cities to meet its drinking water requirement, is waiting for inflows from Karantaka and Maharashtra. Despite heavy rain being reported across the nation, there was no release of water to this project located in Pulakl mandal of Medak district.
According to officials of Singur project, on Friday and Saturday, there was inflow from local streams located in Narayanakhed, Zaheerabad and Andol areas.
As the Karinja reservoir in Karnataka, and Saigam reservoir in Maharashtra, were not yet full, water is not being released from those reservoirs.
Officials, going by the past experience, say that the project would receive water till the end of August, and are hopeful that the project would receive sufficient water this year as the predictions from weathermen were positive.
While the storage on July 22 was 0.28 tmcft, it has reached 0.91 tmfct on July 23. Coming to the water levels, it was recorded at 507.80 metres on Friday, and 510.09 metres on Saturday. The inflow was 8,041 cusecs as rain receded in catchment areas.
“We are hopeful that there will be good rain this year and the weather forecast also gives favourable indications. We are preparing to supply irrigation for about 35,000 acres,” said Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao.
