The Hindu in School (THiS) Chess competition held here under the aegis of Mysore Chess Association drew tremendous response with over 100 students in both junior and senior category participating in it.

Conducted at Sriraama Mandir Hall, Krishnamurthypuram, the competition was inaugurated by Tejkumar, Grand Master, who shared his experience of participating in international chess competitions, including in Moscow where he represented Indian Railways at the World Railways Chess tournament.

He asked chess enthusiasts to study the games of established players and learn from their moves. He stressed on the point that “there is no short cut to success.” “Hard dedicated work is the only route,” he said.

Nagaraj, a well known tennis player, was the chief guest for the valedictory function and gave away the prizes. He appreciated the present day parents for encouraging their children in sports which was rare till a few years ago. He also had a word of advise for the students and called upon them not to neglect their academic activity but take sufficient time to blend it with sports.

G.R. Venkatesh, Regional General Manager, The Hindu , welcomed. Nagendra Muralidhar, vice-president of United Karnataka Chess Association, was present.
