S. Kannan alias Mohammed Kalith (43) of P.S. Nagar, Sankarankoil, was allegedly murdered by an armed gang in his office on Saturday evening.
Some years ago, he acquainted himself with the slain leader of Devendra Kula Velalar Kootamaippu, Pasupathi Pandian.
He was an accused in a murder case reported in SIPCOT police station limits in Thoothukudi in 2005.
Previous enmity is suspected behind the killing, police sources said. The body was taken to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital for post mortem.
However, a case is yet to be registered by Sankarankoil Town police.
