Family members of Bhupinder and Somvir, who died during the police recruitment drive in Kurukshetra last month, have demanded a CBI or high-level judicial probe to ascertain the cause of the deaths. The families would soon file a PIL in the High Court in this regard.

They alleged that both the aspirants had died due to lack of proper arrangements at the recruitment rally and denied allegations of use of performance-enhancing drugs by the deceased.

“He never took any drug and practiced in the village when he came to know about the police recruitment. The government and other authorities are levelling baseless allegations to hide the real reasons. He died because of lack of required medical and other facilities,” alleged Soniya from Gohana in Sonepat, widow of Bhupinder who died on June 29.

Rajni, the widow of Somvir from Dhirana village in Bhiwani district, alleged that her husband fell ill on June 24 during the recruitment drive and the authorities without proper medical facilities referred him to the PGI, Rohtak. “My husband died due to lack of required medical facilities. We got to know about his death after many hours as the authorities did not take the required steps,” she alleged.

Retired IGP and Rashtriya Lok Swaraj Party chief Ranbir Sharma said all four youngsters had died due to lack of proper arrangements. “I have personally checked from their families about their medical histories. No one ever took any drug. Since recruitments were done in violation of the norms, the government has been levelling baseless allegations of use of medicines to divert the attention,” alleged Sharma.
