City girl Vanshika Jolly, who is a cadet in the first Punjab Girls Battalion of NCC, was honoured by her unit with a cash award of Rs 11,000. The young aspiring officer, who wants to pursue a career in armed forces, said she remained motivated to continue with her efforts.

Training hard at the camp in Delhi, Vanshika was one among the two girls selected from Punjab to lead the Republic Day parade last year. The multi-talented girl also was a part of the contingent that performed at a cultural event at the PM’s residence.

Following her father’s unfulfilled dream of donning the olive green, Vanshika had been training hard as an NCC cadet. A student of BA I in BBKDAV College, she has, at times, sacrificed her studies to stay focused on her bigger goal of joining the armed forces.

Vanshika said with time, girls had proven that they could perform equally good in armed forces, citing examples of the first batch of women fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force. Her biggest support system is her family and her mentors at the NCC.
