Saudi armyman held with bullet

New Delhi: A surgeon, working with the army of Saudi Arabia in Yemen, was detained at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday, when security personnel detected a bullet in his baggage. Officials said that the man, who belongs to Punjab and was scheduled to board a flight to Bangkok, failed to provide any documents for the ammunition.
“The baggage was opened in presence of the doctor and one live bullet was recovered from it.
The man was asked to produce any valid document for it, which he failed to show,” said an official.
Security at the IGI airport has been significantly stepped up after terror attacks in Brussels, Istanbul and Bangladesh. Deployment of the security personnel has been stepped up inside the terminal as well as on the outer periphery.
In a similar incident, another passenger was detained after a live cartridge was recovered from his bag. The passenger had arrived at the IGI airport to board a flight to Jammu and failed to show valid document related to the ammunition.
According to the police, both the passengers were allowed to board their flights after questioning and registering a case under the Arms Act.
