Tracking device helps law enforcers thwart kidnapping

Three men took hostage two friends near Disco Bakery, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, late Friday night

KARACHI: Advanced technology proved to be helpful in fighting crime as a tracking device, coupled with prompt intimation of bystanders, helped the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police foil a kidnapping bid in collaboration with the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) on Friday.

Crime diary: Spike in kidnapping, robbery cases

On Friday night, three unidentified men took two friends, identified as Ashar and Sibtain, hostage on gunpoint near Disco Bakery in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and took them away with them. "Ashar, who is a businessman and lives in Phase VI, Defence [Housing Authority], had arrived in his white car to visit his friend, Sibtain, at Disco Bakery in Gulshan-e-Iqbal," said Gulshan-e-Iqbal SHO Safdar Mashwani. "They were sitting in their car when armed men sat in their car and started it."

The officer explained that bystanders who witnessed the kidnapping immediately intimated the police, after which the police immediately informed the relevant departments, including the CPLC and ACLC, and started chasing the car with the help of the Tracker Company. The law enforcers were finally able to trace them near Dalmia locality and the abductees were recovered within half-an-hour. However, the culprits managed to escape. The officer further said that the police have registered a case and were trying to trace and arrest the culprits. Their sketches were also being made with the help of the victims.

Political worker arrested

Separately, a political worker was arrested during a raid in Korangi neighbourhood. Naseem alias Billa is accused of being involved in various cases of targeted killings. Police said the accused was a close aide of a notorious target killer affiliated with a political party, Raees Mamma, who is wanted in a number of cases of targeted killings and extortion.

Interrogation report ready

Meanwhile, the police have prepared the interrogation report of the two political workers who were arrested by the Saudabad police in Malir four days ago.

According to the report, the suspects, allegedly involved in targeted killings, have been identified as Aijaz alias Kala Munna and Dilshad alias Shajju. Both are workers of a political party.

The report stated that Aijaz confessed to have been involved in more than 60 cases of targeted killings, and that he joined a political party in 1986 and remained associated with it till 2016. The accused has also been involved in extortion and land grabbing. The report claims that he also revealed that he killed over a dozen workers of Muhajir Qaumi Movement — Haqiqi.

Kidnapping and murder Four suspects arrested for killing a family

On the other hand, Dilshad also confessed to his involvement in over a dozen cases of targeted killings. He was also accused of collecting extortion from cable operators, factories and shops. Police officials said the accused also had connections with officials of the Zaman Town police station who helped him in criminal activities. Dilshad was also accused of being involved in the Hakim Said murder case.
