Man wins $1 million ticket after shopping for a loaf of bread
By The Patriot Ledger
James Rush of Milton went to Ferretti’s Market in Brewster to buy a loaf of bread and left with the first $1 million prize-winning ticket in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s new Hit $1,000! instant game.
The Patriot Ledger reports Rush told lottery officials he went to the store because his son wouldn’t eat the Irish bread that others were having for breakfast.
Rush chose to collect the prize as a one-time payment of about $430,000 after taxes.
He said he will use the money to pay down his mortgage, save for college tuition for his kids and possibly take a trip to Ireland.
Ferretti’s Market, on Underpass Drive in Brewster, will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale.
The odds against winning a $1 million jackpot in the $10 game are 2.1 million to 1.
