This certainly is a different way to get around town.

A total of 2,500 lucky punters will get the chance to slide their way down this massive 260ft waterslide in Dublin today and tomorrow.

More than 20,000 people applied online for the chance to slip and slide down 98fm's 'Big Slide Home', which the organisers hope to make an annual event.

Traffic diversions were put in place around Winetavern Street, close to Christchurch Cathedral, where all the action is taking place.

The slide takes two hours to inflate and secure into place and another hour to fill the splash pool with water, ensuring a great time for the lucky sliders who get to have a go.

The organisers say that no matter the weather, the slide will be ready.

"People are coming to get wet so a bit of rain won't hurt us," a spokeswoman told Independent.ie.

Independent.ie got the opportunity to strap on a go-pro and take to the slide earlier today. Watch the video above to see how we got along.
