Demand to cancel water cut

Demand to cancel water cut
Pune: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) party has organised protests across the city to demand withdrawal of water cuts, a statement issued by the party said.
“Khadakwasla, Varasgaon, Panshe and Temghar dams that supply water to the city now have good amount of water. There is no need of a water cut now and the administration and district guardian minister should do away with the cut,” the statement said.
It added that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which had introduced water cut due to depleting water levels in the lakes there too has cancelled the cut after the water levels in the dams, which provide water to Mumbai crossed the 50 % mark.
The water availability in four dams providing water to city is more than half, the party said.
The city has been facing water cut since September 2015 due to water scarcity. Following good showers in July the political parties have been demanding cancellation of the water cut. The blame game over water cut prevailed at the general body meeting of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) earlier this week. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the MNS blamed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for politicising the water cut issue, while BJP shot back saying the ruling NCP wanted to take credit for restoring city's regular supply. NCP and MNS staged an agitation demanding that water cut be rolled back. The BJP corporators, on the other hand, protested against potholes in the city.
