Action against misuse of BIS stamp

Chennai: A team of officials from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Southern Regional Office (SRO), Chennai conducted search and seizure operations in Chennai and Kancheepuram districts on information of suspected misuse of ISI mark, on Thursday. They seized drinking water marketed under the names 'Classic' and 'Aquarich' at Chromepet and Injambakkam.
SRO is initiating action under Section 33 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act 1986. The offence is punishable with imprisonment up to one year or a fine up to 50,000 or both.
