The Students Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest demonstration seeking action against the State Bank of India and Reliance Asset Reconstruction Company in the wake of Madurai engineering graduate’s suicide early this week.

Holding the protest here on Friday, the SFI cadre held the nationalised bank and Reliance responsible for the death of K.Lenin (23), a first generation engineering graduate. Lenin had allegedly committed suicide facing pressures over repayment of his education loan of Rs.1.5 lakh and in the backdrop of his jobless state.

The protesters also condemned the State Government alleging inaction on its part. The student’s wing affiliated to the CPI (M) demanded that the police register cases against the bank and Reliance under sections of abetment to suicide and threat. SFI has also demanded that Lenin’s family be paid Rs.25 lakh in compensation.
