Universities receive much-needed funds

The advent of the Hyderabad Karnataka Region Development Board, plush with funds, has augured well for the improvement of the infrastructure facilities in the centres of higher educations in the region.

Besides the Gulbarga University getting the much needed help , even the Central University of Karnataka (CUK), which has been assured funding from the Union government, is a beneficiary of the HKRDB funds for ugrading its infrastructure.

The Sri Krishna Devaraya University at Ballari, the new engineering college at Koppal, University of the Agriculture Sciences at Raichur, Agriculture Research Station in Kalaburagi have also been provided the required funds for taking up research activities and improving their laboratories with latest equipments.

The HKRDB has also provided funds for training and coaching activities taken up for the students by the DIET and BRC centres in the region.

The HKRDB has provided a sum of Rs. 1.17 crore for establishing a Regional Centre for Competitive Excellence and printing press in Gulbarga University.

Another Rs. 1.14 crore has been sanctioned to the Gulbarga University for establishing a digital library. The Gulbarga University has also been sanctioneda sum of Rs. 79.19 lakh for its centre for digital publication and mass communication and another Rs. 46.16 lakh for its centre for competitive excellence in the main campus.

Official sources said here on Friday that the HKRDB had also sanctioned Rs. 80 lakh for purchase of computers, LAN and airconditioning facilities for the Centre for Competitive Excellence in the Gulbarga University and another Rs. 20 lakh for the purchase of computers, library furniture, desks, LCD projector, air conditioners in Gulbarga University.

A sum of Rs. 77.16 lakh has also been sanctioned for providing coaching for CAT, XAT, GMAT, NMA, SAT, GRE, TOEFL and ELTS and other competitive examinations by the banks, RRBs and LIC.

Apart from sanctioning Rs. 1.84 crore for the construction of a boys’ hostel in Central University of Karnataka, the HKRDB has also sanctioned Rs. 76.84 lakh for sinking borewells, providing high mast lamps, solid waste management and other infrastructure facilities.

Another Rs. 96.98 lakh has been sanctioned for purchase of four buses to the central university of Karnataka and Gulbarga University. A sum of Rs. 25.76 lakh has been sanctioned for purchase of two buses to the Sri Krishna Devaraya Unversity at Ballari. A sum of Rs. 12.77 crore has sanctioned to the Agriculture Research station in Kalaburagi for improving infrastructure facilities at its molecular biology lab, farm mechanisation, mobile plant health clinics, construction of godowns, cold storages, laboratory equipments for genomic research for Tur and other agriculture products.
