Woman crushed to death by speeding vehicle

: Hours before her nephew was born at Safdarjung Hospital on Friday, a 40-year-old woman was crushed to death and her brother severely injured as an allegedly speeding water tanker rammed their scooty outside the INA metro station.

The water tanker also went on to hit a Maruti Swift car, leaving its driver injured, and two other motorcyclists. The tanker driver went on to abandon his vehicle and escape after the accident.

The police said he had been booked for causing death by negligence and rash driving. He has been identified, and a hunt is on for him.

The deceased has been identified as Geetanjali Kumar.

She was headed with her brother, Rinku, to the hospital to be with her sister-in-law who was expecting a child.

Geetanjali lived with her family at G-Block of the INA Airport Authority of India’s staff quarters, while Rinku stays in East Azad Nagar.
