MUMBAI: High-level changes in the state IPS are on the cards following the retirement of director general of police Pravin Dixit’s retirement on July 31. If a high-ranking BJP cabinet member is to be believed, anti-corruption bureau director Satish Mathur is likely to take over from Dixit.
An IPS officer of 1981 batch, Mathur will have a long tenure, since he will be retiring in June 2018.
As for the possibility of extension to Dixit, the BJP cabinet member said neither Dixit had asked for one nor was a proposal to extend his services after retirement made. “There was no such proposal. Dixit was never keen on an extension,” he said.
If CM decides to appoint on the seniority basis, high-profile former Mumbai top cop Rakesh Maria is the top contender for the anti-corruption bureau post. Maria is followed by Meera Borwankar, who has taken up a central deputation assignment, Mumbai police chief D D Padsalgikar, DG (legal) Prabhat Ranjan and police housing corporation managing director Vishnu Dev Mishra. As Padsalgikar was appointed recently, CM will not disturb him. “It’s the CM’s prerogative, he will choose the next director of ACB,” the cabinet member said.
