Patna: Gone are the days when parties were organized at home with simple decoration and more focus on delicacies. With changing trend, theme-based parties have gained popularity in the state capital. Be it birthday party for kids, kitty party or wedding, Patnaites are now focusing on a ‘particular theme’ to add colour to their get-together.
Rahul Raj, a city-based event planner, said themes based on jungle, puppets, Barbie and peacock are preferred by parents while throwing birthday parties for their kids.

Another event planner, Praveen Sinha added, “Again, in case of boys, themes on Chota Bhim are in demand and in case of a girl’s birthday party, parents mostly go for themes based on dolls.”
Talking about a birthday party based on peacock theme, Rahul said all the guests were informed earlier to wear green dress. Even the waiters were dressed accordingly and welcome girls, instead of offering flowers, welcomed everyone by giving peacock feather and the cake was designed into a peacock shape.
He added that for a theme-based party for around 150 people, hosts have to shell out around Rs 50,000, except for food.
Praveen, who has organized around 30 theme-based parties this year, said his event company charges between Rs 5,000 and Rs 40,000 for organizing a party. “But for Rs 5,000, we do not provide much, except for arranging a hall and a cake with little decoration. Again, provision for decoration, anchor and musician depends on the money a host wants to spend. In case of food, they have to pay per plate, the charge depending on the kind of food they opt for,” said Praveen.

Theme-based parties have also gained popularity among women regularly organizing kitty parties. Socialite Nisha Singh, who has a group of 15 women for a kitty party, said, “Nowadays, we all go for theme-based kitty party once a month and the responsibility lies on one of the group members. For each party, that member is supposed to come up with an innovative idea.” She added, “On Wednesday, our group had a kitty party based on ‘Mughal’ theme at a city restaurant, and we all were dressed accordingly... Though the food was vegetarian, it was all based on Mughal style of food.”
Nisha said earlier her group used to have simple get-together but for past one year, all the parties have been based on some theme.
