Man stabbed at Midlands Metro tram stop in Bilston

A TRAM station has been closed after a man was stabbed on the platform.

British Transport Police have shut part of Bilston Central tram stop following the attack at around 2.30pm this afternoon.

Officers from West Midlands Police, who lated tweeted about tram closures, also joined colleagues at the scene.

British Transport Police spokesman David Murdoch said: "Officers from BTP and West Midlands Police attended the scene.

Polcie have cordoned off one of the platforms

One man has been taken to hospital with injuries consistent with being stabbed. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

An investigation into the incident has been launched, and police have cordoned off access to the platform on Church Street.

Trains are continuing to run but are not stopping at the Wolverhampton-bound platform at the station.

Officials advised Midlands Metro services on the Birmingham-bound platform are unaffected.

The disruption to services through Bilston mark the latest of a series of problems which have hit the Midland Metro in recent days.
