Supermarket Sainsbury’s has said that its pledge to trial same-day delivery in areas on London and Surrey will create 900 jobs.

The company said that it will begin recruiting for 470 staff for its first ‘dark store’ in Bromley-by-Bow which is expected to fulfil 25,000 orders a week and to employ 900 people by 2020 should the trial be a success.

The news comes as the £1.4 billion tie up between Sainsbury’s and Argos got the go-ahead from Competitions and Markets Authority. The green light means that Sainsbury’s is clear to become Britain’s biggest seller of general goods. It is expected to clear in September.
