Robert Cowell has ruled his Wokingham winner Outback Traveller out of Glorious Goodwood and he will instead be kept back for an autumn campaign.

After his success at Royal Ascot connections dropped him in trip and ran him up in class in a Listed race at York.

However, he was never able to go the gallop, finishing last of nine. He holds entries in the Group Two King George Stakes over five furlongs and the Stewards' Cup - for which he was a leading ante-post contender - but will not run in either.

"I've no idea why he ran so poorly," said Cowell. "There was a bit of publicity after his performance, but we carried out all the tests and absolutely nothing showed up.

"He won't run now until he's absolutely ready and showing us the right signs.

"I just can't put my finger on it. You could say was it the fact he was up in grade, was the ground too fast, was it the track or the trip.

"The thing was he was beaten when he came out of the stalls, it was just too bad to be true - he couldn't go the gallop from the off.

"He just had an off day and unfortunately he can't tell us why.

"He won't run at Goodwood, we'll look at an autumn campaign for him."
