Sony TV emerging as a winner in this ‘content tussle’

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani has inspired TV biggies to showcase the love story on small screen. Sony had been working very closely with Sphere Origins on the Peshwa project. However &TV also got interested in the story and went ahead to launch a teaser to assert supremacy over the Bajirao-Mastani concept. But, instead of backing out SonyTV continued to work on the project and is still defiant its will to showcase one of the biggest love stories of Indian history. A source told Tellychakkar “The Peshwa battle was expected. Though &TV launched its teaser first, Sony TV continued to work on the project and were miles ahead in its development stage when compared to &TV. So, it seems it’s final! Sony TV has won the battle. Bajirao and Mastani’s love story will be shown on Sony. However, there is buzz that & TV might come up with another mythological saga.

Speaking on the content tussle, a source had told Tellychakkar earlier “Good concepts are rare and channels want to air engaging content. Though & has the upper hand in terms of the ‘Peshwa’ buzz, there is a high probability of Sony also coming into the picture. There is palpable discomfort at the Sony camp with & releasing the teaser and minds are being put to work to salvage the situation.”

It will be interesting to see who will be roped in for this ambitious project. Buzz was that Isha Koppikar was being considered to play the role of Mastani. But, no confirmation came from her end. It was also being reported that Sony has began auditioning actors for this. The serial is being anticipated to be the most expensive serial of TV.
