President Robert Mugabe’s resignation letter is awaited today, former Finance Minister Dr. Simba Makoni says.
The war veterans’ announcement yesterday that Mugabe’s reign is over effectively means the President must resign with immediate effect.
The war veterans are Zimbabwe’s most feared elite group as they comprise the entire army and airforce leadership.
Mugabe last month threatened he would launch another Gukurahundi on the war vets and their military elements.
But the war vets several weeks later, have continued to speak out and yesterday for the first time in 37 years declared Mugabe a murderer who has been doing so since the Rhodesian bush war days.
In an official statement, the MKD-Mavambo Kusile Dawn leader Makoni said he congratulates the war veterans. “MKD wishes to congratulate the Zimbabwe war veterans for seeing the light, he began.
He continued, “what we have always said since I left Zanu Pf that Mugabe is an undemocratic leader and he is full
of humbimbindoga. In 2008 I said he has a MAZDA syndrome that says “Mugabe a chatonga Zimbawe dakara afa.”
“Mugabe thinks he is a gift to Zimbabwe kunge ndewe mbeu.
“But today we join hands with War Veterans and all democratic forces in Zimbabwe calling for change that Mugabe must resign immediately as he has failed the people of Zimbabwe.
“He has taken the bread basket of Africa turning it into a begging basket of the world. His failure is unacceptable.
“Mugabe belongs to the past and is history. He has nothing to offer to the people of Zimbabwe and as a result he must resign immediately, ” Makoni concluded.
