AAP MP Bhagwant Mann came under scanner on Thursday when he recorded a Facebook Live video while entering the Parliament. Mann faced a huge backlash when the video went viral on social media earning him the ire of many. The Punjab MP defended his actions saying that he wanted to show how the procedure of how questions were taken up during the Question Hour.
On Friday, the parliamentarians criticized Mann’s actions and alleged that it compromised the security of the Parliament. Due to the protests, both the Houses were adjourned till 12PM on Friday. BJP members demanded a breach of privilege motion to be moved against Mann for his actions.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has taken cognizance of the video and has sought a report from the Parliament security. She further said that she would take action since it was a serious issue.
The video was still available on Mann’s Facebook account and Congress leader Anand Sharma raised this point in the Parliament asking why wasnt the video blocked yet.
Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said that action should be taken against Bhagwant Mann. “Some people should be taught a lesson, they can’t breach security like this” CNN News 18 quoted Mallikarjun Kharge. The JD(U) also asked AAP National convener Arvind Kejriwal to reprimand Mann for shooting the video. Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman expressed displeasure over Mann’s action and said “Bhagwant Mann made a statement that he will do it again. Government will do what it has to do.”
Harsimrat Badal, Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing and Shrimoni Akali Dal leader asked, “Who will be responsible if tomorrow that video is used by terrorist organisations for attacks? Can we take this so leniently?
On Thursday, BJP leader Tarun Chugh said the AAP MP has compromised national security by leaking the security details of the Parliament and uploading the video on social media. “Bhagwant Mann calls it a matter of pride and says he will again show it. I think the AAP has become a shelter of comedians, which doesn’t have an ideology. Its aim is to create sensation. These kinds of people are threat to the nation’s unity,” he said.
